A restaurant specializing in Japanese rice bowl dishes known as donburi has just shut its doors.

Aki Donburi was known as something of a hidden gem over the last few years it’s been open, serving a variety of donburi as well as other chill Japanese drinking snacks and dishes, plus crispy beers in a quiet atmosphere.

Donburi on the menu at Aki included salmon, chicken teriyaki, spicy teriyaki, buta (pork), spicy buta, bulgogi and unagi. Aki Donburi also served typical Japanese appetizers of edamame, gyoza and chicken karaage.

“After three memorable years, Aki Donburi will be closing its doors,” reads a post on social media from Aki Donburi.

“To everyone who has been part of our journey, thank you for your kindness, encouragement, and all the memories we’ve shared. It has been a pleasure serving you, and we are truly grateful for the time we‘ve had together. Good People, Good Food.”

The post only has under a hundred likes and comments, but they’re all from fans of Aki Donburi who are sorry to see the restaurant go so suddenly. The closure announcement post was made barely 24 hours before the restaurant shut its doors.

One person commented on the post saying they were “devastated” to hear the news, with many commenters simply writing “no!” and others pleading for a relocation of Aki Donburi. Some commenters shouted out a best seller dish at Aki Donburi, the salmon don.

“I’m sorry to see this. Your salmon bowl was the bomb,” one commenter said.

“So glad I decided to come by on a Monday to get my fave, salmon don, and have it for the last time. We will miss you!!!” someone else wrote in a comment on Instagram.

“Thanks for the 100+ bowls,” wrote one mega fan.

“I’ve never been more devastated. Thanks for awesome salmon bowls,” another commenter wrote.

The last day in business for Aki Donburi in Toronto was Nov. 2.
