A taco spot that went viral for its birria pizza and birria tacos was shut down under unfortunate circumstances a while back in Toronto, but now the restaurant has found a new place to call home and has recently reopened.

La Barbacha is known for its birria and barbacoa, and now the restaurant is bringing all that goodness to a new neighbourhood where it should fit right in with a range of vibrant global cuisines.

When the restaurant initially closed down in its old space, La Barbacha posted an emotional video updating customers on the situation.

“This is an official statement that La Barbacha Mexican Food will be temporarily closed,” staff reported in the video posted to social media. “This is due to an ongoing issue with the landlord of the location who has notified us that we are not allowed to operate starting today.”

When La Barbacha posted this painful news to social media, at the time people were quick to jump into the comments to suggest new places where the restaurant could move to in order to keep serving its delicious food – obviously with people hoping the restaurant might move closer to their personal neighbourhood.

“Open in downtown, everyone will love it!” one person suggested in a comment on Instagram. “I will miss so much the pizza birria.” Another person encouraged La Barbacha to “come to North York.” Someone else simply promised to follow La Barbacha wherever the restaurant goes, commenting on Instagram, “As soon as you open count on my support.”

Well, now that person has the chance to make good on their promise, as the restaurant La Barbacha has reopened in an entirely new neighbourhood.

La Barbacha has left their old digs in Kensington Market and moved to vibrant Queen West, where the restaurant should be right at home among many other restaurants serving tasty Mexican food, as well as a ton of other hard to find global cuisines including African, Tibetan and Nepalese food. La Barbacha should also be perfect for serving the bar goers that frequent the many watering holes in the area.

So if you’ve been missing a taste of that viral birria pizza you’re craving, you can now head to Queen West to satisfy that. La Barbacha is ready with a menu of tacos, burritos, quesadillas and tortas. Kensington Market will just have to make do with all the other great restaurants there.

La Barbacha has now reopened at 1647 Queen St. W.
