Cheap oyster nights in Toronto are a great way of sampling some of the city’s finest bivalves on a dime.
Restaurants and bars, especially seafood restaurants and oyster bars, often have specials on oysters during certain times of the day and days of the week to lure people in during slower hours. However, the best places to get bargains on the highest quality oysters are typically places that specialize in the mollusk, where the shuckers and servers are experts on exactly what you’re getting for a steal.
Here are some great places for cheap oysters in Toronto.
5 – Bar Neon
For years, this bar on Bloor West serving Greek food has had a reputation for having one of the best happy hours in the neighbourhood. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, they serve an array of cheap drinks as well as a couple cheap snacks including fresh oysters for $2 apiece. They’re served with a funky, tangy mignonette, hot sauce, a wedge of lemon and a dollop of horseradish.

4 – Pearl Diver
Every single day from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at this cozy Adelaide seafood restaurant, there’s a special on a “Diver’s Dozen” of shucked oysters starting at $27, making each oyster cost about $2.25 apiece. Their $27 dozen might consist of a variety like sweet, briny little Gaia oysters from New Brunswick. They’re served on a fancy-feeling little tower with freshly grated horseradish, lemon wedges, Tabasco, mignonette and cocktail sauce.

3 – Island Oysters
At this seafood restaurant right near Bloor and Dufferin, select oysters are $2 on Wednesdays, and Malpeques are $1.50 on Thursdays between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. They’re beautifully presented on crystalline dishes, and they taste as good as they look, with the staff able to expertly describe all their delicious qualities.

2 – Oyster Boy
Show up at this top notch Queen West oyster bar within the first hour of opening on weekdays, and you can snag a deal on their delicious oysters for just $2 each. Unlike some restaurants where only one variety of oysters is on special, you can choose any of their oysters on offer for the $2 deal from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. That includes a wide selection of oysters that might hail from places like Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and British Columbia, from small sweet cocktail varieties to big, buttery meaty ones.

For their “Low Tide” special, select oysters are $2 apiece from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at this King West seafood restaurant. Take a seat at the long, wavy bar and you can see your oysters being shucked and plated with big fronds of seaweed right before your eyes.
One of the best parts about eating cheap oysters at this place is the range of sauces for dressing, perhaps more than many other restaurants, including a ton of hot sauces from warmly spicy to super hot. Bonus: you also get a bit of bread and butter at the beginning of your “Low Tide” meal, something not a lot of other places do.
