Thousands expected to attend local festival coming up soon in Toronto

A local festival is set to take over a neighbourhood in Toronto soon, and it’s going to be a huge smash with over 50 vendors, including artists and makers of all stripes.
Taste of the Junction highlights the best of one of Toronto’s most beloved neighbourhoods, where the community is tight knit and the hidden gems are actually still kind of hidden, unlike in many other overcrowded areas of the city.
This year is a little different for the Taste of the Junction festival, however, as it’s taking place during the FIFA World Cup. That means that thousands of people are expected to hit the streets of the Junction to experience a little slice of Toronto.

While the festival could be new to many tourists who are just passing through Toronto, there will be special new features at the event for returning locals as well. This year at Taste of the Junction, there will be five immersive, walk-in cultural installations created by local artists, entitled Passageways.
Each installation transforms a small footprint into a rich, layered, social-media-worthy environment that celebrates five of the Junction’s largest cultural communities: Black, South Asian, Chinese, Portuguese and British, incorporating tactile features and audio guides via QR code for a multi-sensory experience.
These installations are special for this year’s edition of Taste of the Junction, but the festival will also bring to life local community art that is present all year round.
11 permanent animated augmented-reality murals can be discovered in the Junction using the free Artivive app – the Junction is actually Toronto’s only year-round AR Destination. The Junction offers self-guided AR Mural Tour maps online, and also at the Taste of the Junction booth.

“Taste of the Junction is about celebrating the creativity and character that make Toronto’s neighbourhoods unique,” said Carol Jolly, Executive Director of The Junction BIA.
“During Toronto’s Host City Summer, when more people are expected to be exploring the city, this festival gives residents, visitors, and fans a chance to discover the Junction as a vibrant west-end destination bursting with flavour, art, and surprises. It’s also an opportunity to support local businesses, enjoy public art, and experience one of Toronto’s most creative neighbourhoods.”
The one-day outdoor market and cultural celebration will take place on Saturday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Green P parking lot at 385 Pacific Ave., just south of Dundas Street West.
