A Hamilton bar known for serving craft beer and putting on well-attended events has just permanently closed its doors.

Mosaic was loved for its selection of craft beers and wide variety of community events, ranging from comedy and karaoke to trivia, live music, euchre nights, cribbage and bingo. Ontario beer lovers were sad to hear it when the bar announced they’d be closing down.

“Mosaic will be closing its doors,” the bar wrote on Instagram, “marking not only the end of an era but also the celebration of our fifth anniversary.”

Lots of beer lovers commented on the post saying they were sorry to see the bar go, with many local beer businesses also chiming in.

“You guys will be missed. Hopefully new adventures await,” wrote Toronto’s Black Lab Beer. Wellington Brewery wrote, “So sorry to hear this, thanks for supporting independent craft beer. Wishing you folks all the best.” Hamilton’s Grain & Grit Beer also commented, calling the closure “such a big loss for Barton Village and for our city.” They continued, “Thanks for your support of G&G and local breweries over the years!! We love you guys!”

Other people who were involved with the bar also had emotional outpourings on social media.

“This one hurts,” wrote Justin Shaw on Instagram, who’s been a comedy producer for a monthly show at Mosaic for years.

“This was the home to the little show that could – together with their awesome staff and some of the best comics in the country, we produced a show that consistently sold out. This room had everything working AGAINST it to make it a success – but what made it work was the people.”

“I’m grateful to my fellow owners and to our staff. It was always a team effort. All good things are,” one of the owners wrote on Instagram.

“When I finish my final trivias, I will have wrote and hosted about 130 or so trivias almost consecutively. I’m proud of that.”

Mosaic closed its doors on April 13.
