Clothing store shutting down physical location a year after opening in Collingwood

A popular local clothing brand has just announced they’re shutting down their storefront in Collingwood after opening there a little over a year ago.
Red Sky isn’t a big label, but it’s a well-known queer-owned business beloved by those who appreciate locally designed slow fashion, especially jumpsuits. They’ve blown up on Instagram over the years with nearly 18,000 followers.
The owner of the shop made a post on Instagram saying “smell ya later” on the store’s one-year anniversary.
“You gotta know when to hold ’em. Know when to fold ’em,” reads the post.
“I never wanted our retail space to operate like a ‘real store’ – I wanted shopping appts with friends and dress up parties and queer kids in this small town to feel seen when they walked by the flag in the window. To the 7 people who shopped with me – it meant so so so so much. To the out of towners that made appts – it was always SO much fun playing store with you. I knew opening in Collingwood was a risk, but I had to try.”
The post has over 100 comments from people expressing their sympathies for the closing of the storefront. While the physical store will close, shopping at Red Sky will still be available online, just like it’s always been. You should also be able to browse Red Sky goods at Okay Alright in Collingwood in the fall.
The last day for in-store shopping at Red Sky will be August 3.
