Restaurants that closed their doors during the first month of 2026 in January will always be in our hearts, even though they didn’t get to see much of the new year. A cafe that drew lineups, a wine bar, iconic chain restaurant locations and another Matty Matheson projet all sadly shut down.
Here are restaurants that closed down in January 2026 in Toronto.
New of this coffee shop in Little Italy closing devastated the community back when it was first announced, and now it’s time for their final days on College Street during the month of January. They were always very well known for their delicious and popular breakfast sandwiches made with their signature “angel” biscuits, their giant chocolate chip cookies, and their “cable knit” coffee creation.
Near the beginning of the month, this inclusive event space and chill wine bar on Queen West in Parkdale closed its doors. While it’s sad to lose the spot that provided a community hub in the area, the vibes live on at sibling spot on Dundas West, Tommy’s. The bar closed out their time on Queen with lots of what they’ve always been known for: DJs, wine, good times and dancing.

This Italian restaurant that’s been open in downtown Toronto for a decade suddenly announced that they were closing down on the first day of 2026. The restaurant served up all kinds of popular Italian favourites, and the restaurant was known for their fun and stylish patio facing the bustling streets.

The location of this Chinese buffet chain restaurant found at Yonge and Eglinton closed down during the first month of 2026. People sadly lined up for their last taste of unlimited chicken balls, noodles, sushi and dessert from their epic sweets bar, at least when it comes to this particular location of Mandarin in Toronto.

This restaurant from Matty Matheson’s mentor, Chef Rang, served banh mi, vermicelli bowls, fresh rolls and other Vietnamese classics with twists on tradition. Unfortunately, the spot on Spadina near Queen let everyone know that they would no longer be serving the city with their tasty noods and sammies.
The location of this well-known chain restaurant that was found at shopping centre Yorkdale closed its doors around the middle of the month. The spot served an extensive menu and was a welcome place for fuelling up at the mall for nearly 20 years.

The closure of this viral pizza place on Geary around the end of the month is sad news for lovers of their creative pies. However, there’s a silver lining: the team behind Big Trouble says they’re currently at work on something new and exciting.
