Beer Stores have been closing down in waves over the course of the summer, and now the closures have claimed two more stores in Toronto.

The latest two stores that closed were part of a swath of closing locations across Ontario. The stores that just recently closed this past weekend were located in Toronto, Ajax, Azilda, Milton, Markham and Ottawa.

The two Toronto stores that closed were located at 89 Laird Dr., Unit 1 in East York and at 41 Mill St.

The landscape of buying alcohol and returning empties is changing rapidly in Ontario. Grocery stores and convenience stores are now permitted to sell alcohol, including beer, whereas in the past alcoholic beverages could only be purchased at the Beer Store and the LCBO.

Beer Stores continue to accept empties, but as of Jan. 1, 2026 grocery stores that sell alcohol will be required to return empties.

“The Beer Store is making the difficult decision to close these locations. We will continue our focus on sustainability and recycling as we modernize operations in a changing marketplace,” said Ozzie Ahmed, Vice President Retail, TBS, in a press release.

“I understand this will be disappointing news to customers and employees. The Beer Store is committed to treating employees with respect and supporting them during this transition.”

The press release also states that “efforts will be made to support employees through this process.”

The last day for all the above stores was July 20.
