A cafe inside a clothing store has suddenly announced recently that they have permanently closed in Toronto.
Cafe Wey Cup started out as a combination thrift shop and coffee shop with a Mexican influence that originally opened its doors about a year ago, and more recently in their journey they moved into local clothing store On The Map.
Around their one year anniversary, the coffee shop posted to social media letting people know they would be temporarily closed while the team went on a break.
Now, they’ve announced that they have suddenly closed up shop permanently.
Cafe Wey Cup took to social media to let people know about the permanent closure of the concept.
“Unfortunately, things have gone beyond our control and the Weycup team has decided to go in different directions, which means this project will be permanently closed,” reads a social media post from Cafe Wey Cup.
“It was one year of effort, learning, and a real intention to build community. Even though most of the team wanted to continue, we were not able to make it work. We are truly sorry for the lack of communication. We simply couldn’t find the time and the right words. We are deeply grateful to our neighbours, friends, family and community who supported us throughout this this journey. It was an incredible year.”
The social media post continues on to say that one of the members from the Cafe Wey Cup team who was responsible for the events, design, decor and experiences is branching out from this journey to start a new project of their own. Several people took the time to comment on the post letting the Cafe Wey Cup team know that while the project was short-lived, it meant a lot.
“The cafe was so so beautiful, but i know you’ll do amazing things,” one person wrote in a comment. “Best of luck on your new endeavours.”
“You will truly be missed in the neighbourhood,” reads another comment. “I loved your events and coffee.”
“Aw man. I was wondering what had happened,” someone else commented. “It’s sad to see you guys go yall were my lil corner of home away from home (i was born and raised in Mexico) i hope the best for y’all.”
“I will never forget movie club and my first café de olla!” another person wrote in a comment. “Best of luck, you guys made something very special.”
