A restaurant that’s been beloved in the community for two decades has now announced they’re shutting down in Oakville.

Celadon House has been a source for Asian cuisine in the Oakville community for many years, but now they’ve taken to social media to announce that they’ll soon be shutting their doors.

They make their sauces from scratch in a way that’s faithful to Southeast Asian cuisine traditions, and they’re known for their generous portions served family style.

“The pale green Longquan Celadons from the Jin dynasty were our inspiration when choosing our name. The subtle beauty and understated elegance of these ceramics are highly regarded. It is also the most representative ceramic ware from the Orient. Liken it to Asian home cooking, which requires laborious prep work and care to make. The name Celadon House reflects the passion that we bring to the food we prepare and the service we provide,” reads the official Celadon House website.

“We take pride in offering authentic and wholesome dishes from different parts of Southeast Asia. Some are light and tasty while others are rich and exotic. You may find some familiar items on our menu, but most will be unique and rarely found in restaurants. They are faithful reproductions of original family recipes, comfort food that are prepared and served in Asian homes as everyday meals. Some are elaborate dishes which are mainstays for many traditional festivities we celebrated.”

Ownership made a post to the restaurant’s social media on Dec. 12.

“While this farewell is bittersweet, as much as we want to continue, our bodies are broken, and it is time to slow down and embark on a different adventure,” read the post. The team cites retirement as a reason for the decision.

“Thanks to you, we hit the ground running. Your support over the last two decades has kept us grounded and humbled, touching our lives more than you’ll ever know,” reads the message from the restaurant.

“To have lived and worked in such a wonderful neighbourhood, and to have raised our children surrounded by the kindest people in the world, has made our life in Canada the most amazing immigrant experience.”
