A bakery, cafe and restaurant has sadly closed its doors after a decade in a small Ontario town, but it’s already transforming into something new.

Main Street Bakehouse was originally established in 2015 by three sisters-in-law. The cafe and restaurant served baked goods, breakfast and lunch.

The business took to social media to let people know that they would be shutting down.

“After years of love, hard work, and unforgettable memories, it’s time to turn the page to a new chapter. Our journey with the Main Street Bakehouse has been nothing short of incredible—filled with laughter, challenges, and most importantly, a community that became family,” reads a post from the business.

“While it’s not easy to say goodbye, we find comfort in knowing that the heart and soul of this place will continue to thrive in the hands of a wonderful family who truly deserves it. They share our passion and values, and we have no doubt they will carry on the legacy with love and dedication.”

The post has nearly 500 likes and over 60 comments on Instagram from people emotionally expressing their gratitude for the years that Main Street Bakehouse spent serving the community, but also saying they’re looking forward to what’s to come from the new owners.

The new owners are the people behind Saint’s Island Pies, a popular Filipino-inspired pizza company. They’re taking over the Main Street Bakehouse space and turning it into Saints on Main, a bakery, cafe and pizzeria. They’ll be serving fresh baked pastries and bread, coffee, and their signature Filipino pies in the revamped spot.

Chuck Ortiz of Saints tells YourCityWithIN.com that the new restaurant will be serving breakfast sandwiches, breakfast plates, sandwiches, pizza slices, barbecue on the patio and beer on tap, and that they’re updating the interior to feel lighter and more open.

“We’re building on what the families before us started, adding our own flavour while keeping the heart and soul intact,” Ortiz tells YourCityWithIN.com.

“Saints on Main will be a gathering place for the community to enjoy coffee, pastries, and pizza, but more than that, it’ll be a space to create memories.”

Saints on Main is slated to open in July at 6236 Main St. in Whitchurch-Stouffville. Main Street Bakehouse had its last days of business in mid-June.
