The Beer Store and the LCBO were once the main places where consumers could go to purchase alcohol in Ontario, but more recently grocery stores and convenience stores have been permitted to sell alcohol.

The store that closed in Scarborough was located at 2934 Finch Ave. E.

The other closed locations were located at 501 Bath Rd. in Amherstview, 130 Cedar St. in Cambridge, 227 Cambridge Ave. in Iroquois Falls, 1431 Rebecca St. in Oakville and 55 Queen St. in Tottenham, and 1470 Major Mackenzie Dr. in Vaughan.

Three locations closed in Mississauga at 2925 Eglinton Ave. W., 3154 Hurontario St. and 65 Queen St. N.

“We made the difficult decision to close these retail locations. We will continue our focus on what we do best, ice-cold beer, great customer service and a world-class recycling program that last year returned more containers than we sold,” said Ozzie Ahmed, Vice President Retail, TBS, in a release.

“Modernizing operations in a changing marketplace is never easy, we know this will be difficult news for customers and employees. The Beer Store is committed to treating employees with respect and supporting them during this process.”

The last day for all the above locations was Aug. 10.
