CLOSURE: A restaurant for burgers has closed after 10 years in the GTA

A location of a restaurant chain serving up classic burgers has just shuttered its doors after serving its community for over a decade.
Hero Certified Burgers is a chain of burger joints that’s totally Canadian-owned and operated. They have many locations in Ontario, but now there will be one less location for one neighbourhood to turn to when they’re hungering for burgers.
The brand was actually founded by a cheesemaker called John F. Lettieri who was on the hunt for a 100 per cent Angus beef burger with a slice of real cheddar cheese.
Deciding he had to start offering it at a fast casual chain himself, Hero Certified Burgers was born. In November 2003, John F. Lettieri opened the first Hero Certified Burgers at Hazelton Lanes in the Yorkville district of Toronto.
“At Hero Certified Burgers, the company only sources naturally raised 100 per cent Seasoned Angus Beef from cattle raised in a free-range environment, grain-fed (without the use of animal by-products), and free from additional hormones or antibiotics,” reads the Hero Certified Burgers official website.
Aside from their signature burger, they also serve an egg burger, a “Blue Moon” burger with portobello mushrooms and blue cheese, and an “Action Hero” burger with guacamole, bacon, onion rings and smoked white cheddar cheese.
They also now even serve hot dogs and breakfast items such as a Frank’s Sriracha Fried Egg Sandwich and Chipotle Fried Chicken Sandwich. Their menu also includes chicken wings, seafood items, plant-based items, shakes and desserts.
The location of the burger joint that has closed up shop in Toronto was located at Jane and Major Mackenzie Way.
“We want to let our community know that our Jane and Major Mackenzie franchise is now closed,” reads a social media post announcing the closure of the location in the Toronto neighbourhood.
The post has nearly 100 likes and just a couple brief comments from people reacting to the news of the closure of the Hero Certified Burgers chain location.
“That can’t be true,” wrote one person in the comments on the social media post announcing the closure. “So sorry to hear,” commented another person.
You can still order online from Hero Certified Burgers through their app. There are still many locations of Hero Certified Burgers operating in Toronto, including other locations in Vaughan and one at York University.
Hero Certified Burgers made the social media post announcing that the Jane and Major Mackenzie Way location of the chain had now officially closed on Sept. 22.
