500 free scoops of ice cream being given away across Toronto

Summer is officially coming in Toronto, and that means it’s almost time for ice cream!

One ice cream shop brand in Toronto is kicking off the season by giving away a whopping 500 free scoops across the city, in celebration of their fifth anniversary.

Scooped by Demetres is a Canadian-born ice cream parlour that’s the little sibling to dessert chain Demetres, which was originally established all the way back in 1989. The brand is known for its unique small batch artisanal ice cream flavours that put a fun spin on the classic favourites we all know and love.

The scoops will be given out for free at various locations of Scooped by Demetres at the beginning of each shop’s hours on the day of the giveaway. The free giveaway will entitle the first customers in line on that day to any single scoop flavour of choice for no charge.

One of the most exciting parts of the fifth anniversary celebration for Scooped by Demetres is that the brand is actually bringing back one of their highly beloved original flavours: roasted white chocolate. The unusual flavour is made using actual Belgian white chocolate that is roasted to perfection to bring out deep toasted notes, and the ice cream is ripped with a housemade blonde chocolate stracciatella.

Other standout flavours that will be available this season at Scooped by Demetres include Nostalgia, Cajeta Swirled Goat Cheese, Mango Passionfruit Sorbetto, and Double Baked Apple Pie, which is the winner of RCC Best Ice Cream and All-Canadian awards, made using actual house-baked apple pies folded into browned butter ice cream.

The “Nostalgia” flavour is intended to be inspired by classic diner milkshakes and childhood favourites like Ovaltine and Nesquik, blending amber malt, cocoa, vanilla and honeycomb sponge toffee coated in malted milk chocolate.

The Cajeta Swirled Goat Cheese is made using a housemade Mexican-style goat milk caramel, and the Mango Passionfruit Sorbetto is totally vegan and is made with Alphonso mangoes and South American passionfruit – basically, summer in the form of a sorbetto.

The brand currently operates five GTA locations:

• Distillery District – 46 Gristmill Lane, opens at noon
• CityPlace – 113 Fort York Blvd., opens at noon
• Waterworks Food Hall – 50 Brant St., opens at 11:30 a.m.
• Square One – 100 City Centre Dr., opens at 10 a.m.
• Scarborough Town Centre – 300 Borough Dr., opens at 10 a.m.

Scooped by Demetres will be giving away 500 free scoops of ice cream in total across all their stores in the Greater Toronto Area on May 30.
