If you’re the type of person who likes to raise a glass to the holiday season after a long year of hard work, a Toronto restaurant is now giving you the opportunity to drink your way through the 12 days of Christmas with 12 specialty limited edition cocktails.
And these are no crappy cranberry vodkas or cheesy tiki cocktails, either, so if you keep your pinkies up while you drink your seasonal beverages then these are the holiday-themed drinks for you.
Madrina Bar y Tapas is known for its stunning Spanish cuisine, and now they’re busting out a menu of 12 holiday cocktails that are just as jawdropping. Of course, they’re super cute, aesthetically pleasing and fun to drink too.
The whimsical, creative lineup of cocktails designed by general manager Jake Malone is inspired by the lyrics of the jolly Christmas Carol “The 12 Days of Christmas.” You can expect way more than rum and eggnog with this array of holiday-themed cocktails that ranges from more traditional to elegant to extravagantly innovative.
The drinks are literally named after each line of the 12 Days of Christmas carol.
- A Partridge in a Pear Tree – A pear and citrus spritz with pear and orange liqueur, Cava, and spiced honey syrup
- Two Turtle Doves – Paired red and green cocktails to share, one tart and creamy with pomegranate, cranberry, and sherry, the other a minty, herbal sour
- Three French Hens – A French 75 with gin, lemon, and garnacha
- Four Calling Birds – Irish whiskey, amaro, maple syrup, and chocolate bitters served in a bird-shaped glass
- Five Golden Rings – Martini-inspired cocktail with dry gin and vermouth, garnished with dehydrated lemon and gold flake
- Six Geese a Laying – Tequila, orgeat, lime, and a suspended passionfruit “yolk”
- Seven Swans a Swimming – A white negroni sour with gin, aromatized wine, herbal liqueur, thyme, and flower petals
- Eight Maids a Milking – Clarified house-made eggnog with Spanish brandy and spiced rum
- Nine Ladies Dancing – A mezcal sour with pomegranate and chile-agave syrup
- Ten Lords a Leaping – A winter spritz with añejo tequila, amaro, and brûléed fig, garnished with honeycomb
- Eleven Pipers Piping – Mulled wine with Spanish brandy, cinnamon, clove, orange peel, and cranberries
- Twelve Drummers Drumming – Spanish coffee with rum, Spanish liqueur, thick foam, and a cinnamon stick
There’s even a bonus 13th cocktail called “The Naughty List,” a whisky flip with amaro, charcoal cacao syrup, and egg, served alongside “coal” truffles.
Madrina has started out by offering one new cocktail every two days until Christmas Eve, but don’t worry if you’ve missed out on the first few and still want to try them all. The offer will repeat on the real 12 days of Christmas, from Boxing Day until Jan. 6.
