A coffee shop that claims to be Toronto’s first and only manga cafe just opened up this week.
If you’ve been along the Danforth recently, you may have noticed The One-Shot Manga Cafe setting up shop with a storefront featuring artwork from a local artist.
They’ve been curating a huge library of manga to browse, and they’re now letting readers get lost in their finds while sipping on hot beverages. They also have free WiFi, encourage cosplay and offer a 15 per cent student discount.
One-Shot’s starting menu consists of coffee, tea, bubble tea, sandwiches and pastries, including matcha lattes, lots of bubble tea flavours, egg sandos, muffins and bagels.
They’re accepting donations of manga and merch to add to their collection, so even if you were once interested in manga but aren’t any more, you might still want to know about this place. They’re even offering store credit in exchange for donations.
They’ll accept used manga in good condition with all pages intact for the demographics of Shonen, Shojo, Seinen, Josei and children, in all genres “EXCEPT anything that falls into the H-word genre (you know the one).” They’ll also accept used merch in good condition, figurines and framed prints preferred.
The One-Shot Manga Cafe soft opened on April 17 at 1344 Danforth Avenue and is currently open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
