New restaurants open in Liberty Village in Toronto all the time, offering fresh spots for lunch for the many office workers in the area, and places to grab a chill weeknight dinner for those who live there. From tacos to Thai, pasta to idlis, and of course the city’s most sensational new takeout chicken joint, this little neighbourhood is booming.
Here are some of the top new restaurants in Liberty Village.
Fresh pasta in a few shapes is cranked out at this tiny self-proclaimed lab where you can see the pasta making process, and directly into the kitchen through a window. Build your own pasta bowl by choosing a shape and style of sauce. The “Tommy” is your standard tomato sauce, nicely balanced between sweet and savoury, with a luxurious dollop of creamy cheese to take things over the top. The rigatoni shape itself is substantial, and is cooked to a decent al dente.

4 – Ghost Taco
You can now pair your local craft beer at Something in the Water with tacos thanks to the opening of a location of this restaurant inside. They have all kinds of varieties from meaty options to veggie ones, served on fluffy flour tortillas. A brussel sprout option has a smoky char to it that’s paired with a cooling fresh cheese.

3 – Thai Barn Na
Thai takeout or dine-in is now easy in this neighbourhood due to the opening of a new location of this restaurant serving up all your favourites. Their rendition of pad thai is satisfyingly not too sweet with lots of crunchy bean sprouts and peanuts.

2 – Thindi Cafe
Steaming idlis are served at the Liberty Village location of this restaurant that also has a spot on College Street. They’re perfectly airy and spongy, and come served with comforting, deeply flavoured stewy sambar and a cool but spicy chutney. Idlis and dosas come in a variety of styles, and Thindi also served baked goods and warm beverages.

1 – Mozy’s
This new charcoal chicken restaurant has been taking the area by storm and has drawn major lineups. While the chicken is juicy and flavourful, it’s backed up by some powerful supporting characters. There’s a selection of punchy sauces, as well as puffy fresh bread, plus labneh and eggplant dips. With a crunchy salad and thick cut, generously seasoned steak fries on the side followed by chewy tahini cookies for dessert, this place has it all.
