The same people behind a Michelin-level restaurant in Ontario have now opened a brand new spot that’s just as excellent, and as a bonus, leans into a fun loose Home Alone theme.
The team behind the Michelin-recommended Fat Rabbit in St. Catharines have now opened Les Incompetents in the same town. Superfans of the popular holiday movie series will know that the words “Les Incompetents” is a reference to a line from the movie Home Alone.
The words appear in a scene when the main character in Home Alone, Kevin McCallister, is talking to one of his young relatives who says, “You know mom’s gonna pack your stuff anyway. You’re what the French call les incompetents.”
Subtle Home-Alone-themed touches throughout the restaurant Les Incompetents include a giant French movie poster for Home Alone and little plastic heads of characters in the movies on the restaurant’s bar taps, including the “Wet Bandits” who are the villains of the movie as well as Kevin McCallister.
People have even shown up to the restaurant dressed as characters from the movie recently. A party showed up to Les Incompetents one night dressed up as Keving McCallister and the Wet Bandits.

Aside from the explicit touches that reference the Home Alone movies outright, the restaurant Les Incompetents also has elements that feel pulled straight from the 1990s when Home Alone came out, with lots of bold colours, fun textures and quirky patterns and prints.
Les Incompetents describes themselves as a “French-ish bar” and the food menu stays pretty faithful to traditional French bistro fare, but if you’re looking for more Home Alone references you just might find them on the cocktail list.

There’s the “Buzz…Woof!” with gin, Chamberyzette, lovage, olive oil, lime and fennel pollen, the “Keep the Change” with Pineau des Charentes, Hennessy VS, scotch, white chocolate, lemon, raspberry, toasted oat and egg white and their version of a “Wet Bandit Martin” with gin or vodka plus Cocchi Americano, vermouth and lovage oil.
While the food menu may not feature any references to the movie Home Alone it is filled with sophisticated French cuisine, from raw seafood selections like chilled langoustines, scallops, tuna ceviche, hamachi and salmon trifle to nibbles of cheese, baguette, sausage, foie gras and croquettes. They also serve other dishes like baked oysters, skewers of beef and seafood, and chicken crepes.
Les Incompetents is now open in St-Catharines at 386 Saint Paul St.
