One of the most fun festivals for families this fall in Oakville is throwing a Halloween-themed edition this very weekend, and it’s going to be packed with creepy fun for everyone.

Acorn Fest is one of Oakville’s biggest fall festivals, which, yes, does really feature a gigantic acorn. Now, they’re doing a Halloween-themed edition of the fest this weekend.

Aside from Oakville’s biggest acorn which measures eight feet by six feet, there will be all sorts of other Halloween themed fun activities at the festival. There will be live entertainment, games, food and drinks, and of course everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best costumes.

You’ll want to make sure you put your full effort into those costumes, especially because the day of fun kicks off with a costume contest not only for humans, but their furry friends too.

And why might you want to make sure you’re the best dressed when it comes to costumes? Because there’s a $100 gift card on the line. The costume contest for people and animals starts at noon and ends at 1:30 p.m.

Following that, there’s a “spooky salsa” session that starts at 1:45 p.m. and ends at 3 p.m. The scary dance session will be led by City Dance Corps, which operates in both Oakville and Toronto and has been in business for over 20 years.

From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. there’s a magic show, and then from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. a live band called Supersonic Hearts Band will close out the early day of family fun with an eerie two-hour set.

Don’t worry, that’s far from the only music and entertainment that will be taking place as the day goes during the Halloween edition of Acorn Fest. There will also be plenty more musicians wandering around and serenading those attending the festival, and there will also be other roaming performers you’ll be able to spy at the fest like stilt walkers.

Of course, to keep all the family-friendly seasonal tricks and treats going, there will also be food available from local downtown restaurants in Oakville, not only for people but pets as well. Local businesses will also be out at the festival.

Croissant Express will be serving baked goods and dog-friendly cookies, Spice & Saffron will be serving Indian snacks, Chocolate & Love is vending chocolates and sweets, Pizzaiolo will have hot pizza covered, Second Cup will have puppuccinos and freshly baked treats, and Fly Spin is offering drinks and “barkcuterie” boards.

Oakville Galleries will have a station for button making and acorn colouring, The Ten Spot will be doing puppy manicures and henna art, Civello Salon will be doing a braid bar and puppy painting and Summer & Grace + Lollipop Art Lounge will be operating an “art for dogs” station.

The Halloween edition of Acorn Fest will be taking place in Oakville from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 18.

You’ll be able to find all the festivities at the Towne Square at 210 Lakeshore Rd E in Oakville.
