Ontario’s tiniest movie theatres are some of the smallest on the planet, with one of the micro cinemas holding the record for smallest cinema in the world.
There are two Little Prince Micro Cinemas located right in Ontario that seat just a dozen people each, and they’re some of the most unique movie viewing experiences around the globe.
“What is the Little Prince? We’re glad you asked! We are an old-timey ‘cinema,’ lounge, and intimate event space, designed to enrich the community by bringing people together again, in the real word, via our Guinness World Record holding twelve seat ‘micro-cinema’ and accompanying ‘Lobby Lounge & Concession,'” reads the official website for Little Prince Micro Cinema.
“The Little Prince was designed and built in the Spring of 2019 by Leigh Cooney, alongside several friends, family members, filmmakers, artists, and a loving community. We are a social enterprise, meaning we operate on a community-before-profits model. We strive to leave the community a better place than we found it.”
Cooney is an Irish born Canadian who’s something of a jack of all trades, following the paths that bring communities together. According to the Little Prince website, he’s a “social entrepreneur, painter, sculptor, designer, Wedding Officiant, proud dad, founder of the Little Prince, and adorer of all things uncommon and unconventional.”
He operates the cinema with the help of Maddi Forrest, Emily Bowman and Leslie Hoppenrath.
The cinema lounge brings a nostalgic yet timeless feel to life with decor that blends elements of the Victorian Era, the roaring twenties and pop culture. Of course, there’s also popcorn and candy available at movie showings to tie the whole experience together.
They really do show movies both old and new at the micro cinemas, with lots of classic and accessible options like the new 2025 Superman movie, Field of Dreams, 1984’s The Toxic Avenger, Dirty Harry and Jane Austen Wrecked My Life. Tickets are around $12.
Seeing as it’s so small, the micro cinemas are perfect for intimate events and parties, and can be totally booked out for private screenings. In addition to the selection of movies both old and new that they screen regularly, they also have a selection of over 30,000 titles to choose from for your very own VIP showing for the tiniest crowd in the world.
You can find the Little Prince Micro Cinemas in Cambridge at 64 Grand Ave. S. and in Stratford at 62 Wellington St.
