Thanksgiving Monday Toronto: What’s Open and Closed on October 13, 2025

Thanksgiving Day falls on Monday, Oct. 13, this year in 2025, and many Toronto businesses will not operate as usual for the holiday.

Thanksgiving has been officially celebrated as an annual holiday in Canada since Nov. 6, 1879, typically taking place on the second Monday in October.

Unlike the celebration in the U.S., Canadian Thanksgiving takes place earlier in the fall to coincide with the harvest season.

Thanksgiving is a statutory holiday throughout the country, except in the Atlantic provinces of Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, where the holiday is optional.
