RESTO RECO: This new burger joint can be found in a regular looking house in Toronto

A new burger joint has opened up in an unexpected place in Toronto: a regular house that looks just the same as any other in a residential neighbourhood.
It’s not just any old house, though. Venture past the porch and you’ll find it’s now the home of Elijah’s Automatic Flame Broiled Burgers.
Elijah’s Automatic is the latest project from Shant Mardirosian, who’s known for founding the chain Burger’s Priest and later opening pizzeria Fourth Man in the Fire. Now, he’s returning to burgers while also branching out to another beloved comfort food: burritos.

The restaurant first opened on the basis of serving a menu of flame broiled burgers, but now they’ve just recently added burritos and weekend breakfast burritos into the mix.

The Automatic is their signature burger that really showcases that Elijah’s flame broiled flavour, somewhere between a backyard BBQ burger and a succulent smash patty, with a nice touch of smokiness and lots of rich beefy flavour.
It comes with two patties, cheddar, pickle, charred onion, mustard and ketchup for a classic roadside/fast food vibe.

Their Golden State is, as the name suggests, Elijah’s tribute to a more Cali-style burger similar to those served at In-N-Out with two patties, double cheddar, onion, crisp lettuce and tomato, and a zesty special house sauce.

To complete the “Golden State” picture you can add on the “Beast” fries, which are similar to In-N-Out’s “animal style” fries, topped with grilled onion, house sauce and cheddar. They’re very onion-y and ooey gooey.

They have a bean and cheese burrito on their regular menu, but come on the weekends for their breakfast burritos wrapped in flour tortillas that are made in house from scratch. They’re made with lard so they’re extra soft and stretchy, but they’re also very durable.
There are three options for breakfast burritos: chorizo, shredded beef and bean. Like the tortillas, another star supporting character is the house salsa they come with, which is just spicy enough but also a little sweet.

To top it all off, they also serve shakes and ice cream, along with the Harry and Heel’s doughnuts that Fourth Man in the Fire has become known for.

Elijah’s Automatic Flame Broiled is located at 821 The Queensway.
