The people behind popular Toronto restaurants Bar Raval and Bar Isabel just opened up a brand new wine bar, and it’s sure to be one of the hottest tickets in town straight away.

Martine’s Wine Bar comes to us from Grant Van Gameren, who is behind not only Bar Raval and Bar Isabel but also other restaurants in Toronto like Quetzal and Harry’s Charbroiled. Martine’s has also brought on Bar Raval chef Luke Haines for the opening of the restaurant in the former home of Woodlot in Little Italy. Both Van Gameren and Haines posted about the launch of the restaurant on their personal social media pages.

“What is Martine’s?” reads a post from Van Gameren. “Good question….At some point food became so complicated and precious. Martine’s is the opposite for me. Delicious and simple. Just the way I’ve always liked it.” He goes on to thank the staff and others who helped open the restaurant.

“You truly would not believe the amount of hard work that went into this place, and the amount of people who have contributed to creating Martine’s,” reads a post from Haines. “Can’t wait to see you all and cook some awesome food for you and serve you some amazing wines. Our menu was created with love and passion and hard work. We are serving you food that we want to eat, and hope you do too.”

Haines has also been posting dishes available at the restaurant on his social media. Some dishes he’s posted include bavette tartare with roasted fennel hot sauce, turnips with long pepper and bonito, razor clams with oyster mushrooms and wild leeks, garganelli with fennel lamb ragu, Salt Spring Island mussels with green sambal broth, turnips and radishes with tonnato butter and furikake, and wood oven Quebec chicken with fries and dip.

Martine’s Wine Bar is now open at 293 Palmerston Ave.
