The most recent version of the prestigious list of North America’s 50 Best Restaurants has just dropped, and an amazing Ontario restaurant managed to crack the top five.
Restaurant Pearl Morissette landed at the illustrious number three on the list of some of the best restaurants on the entire continent. It’s just below world class restaurants Atomix in New York at number one, and happily, another Canadian restaurant called Vin Mon Lapin in Montreal at number two.
Restaurant Pearl Morisette is located in Lincoln, Ontario and is also part of a larger operation that encompasses a winery, farm and bakery. The restaurant serves tasting menus with dishes like grilled West Coast geoduck with pickled spruce tips, caramelized spiral celeriac tart topped with Acadian sturgeon caviar, and Nubian goat with overwintered parsnips and blackened barley koji.
“Opened in November 2017 by chef-owners Daniel Hadida and Eric Robertson, Restaurant Pearl Morissette (RPM) is renowned for the thoughtfully crafted, French-inspired farmhouse cuisine it serves. Located in a prized wine region, the dining room is perched on the second floor above Pearl Morissette Estate Winery and offers sweeping views of the property’s large regenerative farm, peach orchard and expansive vegetable, herb and flower gardens,” reads the official North America’s 50 Best Restaurants write-up of Restaurant Pearl Morisette.
“On-site gardener-forager Deirdre Fraser and farmer Shane Harper supply ingredients from wild mushrooms to unconventional herbs like tangy pineapple sage and pristine greens. What isn’t grown or produced at Pearl Morissette is carefully sourced from local sustainable farmers, ranchers, foragers and fisherfolk – ensuring each dish reflects the richness of the local ecosystem.”
The good news for Canadian restaurants doesn’t stop there, however. At number four, we’ve got Smyth in Chicago, but it’s followed up by Quebec City restaurant Taniere3 at spot number five.
But wait, there’s even more good news for Canadian restaurants in Ontario, with a couple restaurants in Toronto placing on the list as well.
Mexican restaurant Quetzal snagged spot number 11 on the list of North America’s 50 Best Restaurants, and Asian-inspired hotspot Mhel managed to make the list at spot number 44, still very impressive and beating out five other restaurants located in the United States.
The other Canadian restaurants that placed on the North America’s 50 Best Restaurants list are Baan Lao in Richmond at number 12, Published on Main in Vancouver at number 28, and Montreal’s Montreal Plaza at number 22, Le Violon at 29, Alma at 43 and Beba landing at spot number 50.
