A hotly anticipated new steakhouse from a pair of Michelin-level chefs just swung open its doors in Toronto.
Sammarco comes to us from Rob Rossi and David Minicucci, also behind Italian establishments Giulietta and Osteria Giulia, both of which are recommended in Toronto’s Michelin Guide. Osteria Giulia is even the proud owner of a prestigious Michelin star for excellent cooking.
Now, the pair are bringing that excellence to a whole new concept that just opened up: an Italian steakhouse.
Sammarco’s menu starts off with fairly typical Italian offerings of olives and bread then moves on to seafood and meat dishes, but that’s where the comparison with the average steakhouse ends.
Meat options include fried tripe and veal sweetbreads, and their sole pasta option is a “100 egg fettuccine.” They also offer a mixed grill of meats and a crown of dry aged duck. Of course, there are some veggie sides to accompany everything.
For dessert, there are takes on classics like a pineapple upside down treat, and a cheese cart. When it comes to drinks, there are four versions of a negroni on offer, including the “Osaka” with Toki Suntory Whisky. There are also mocktails and seasonal options, many liquors for martinis, and an extensive selection of wines.
Sammarco also offers private dining, with a space called The Carlevale Room that seats up to 24.
Sammarco is now open at 4 Front St. E.
