In case you’re not familiar with banh mi, basically they’re Vietnamese sandwiches made with crusty baguette rolls stuffed with meats and fresh toppings like herbs and vegetables.

Now, the newly opened shop & Banh Mi is ready to throw its hat in the ring when it comes to selling sandwiches in Toronto.

& Banh Mi stands out when it comes to the other options for Vietnamese sandwiches in Toronto because of their wide variety of options that you can’t find just anywhere. They also bake their own bread in house and use coffee beans that were roasted in Vietnam for their range of Vietnamese-style cafe beverages.

Their signature banh mi is the & Crackle, which is made with crispy crackling roasted pork, house-made roasted pork sauce, cilantro, chili, pickled daikon and carrots, and green onion. & Banh Mi also serves another unique pork belly banh mi called the & Caramel Braised, made with slow-braised pork belly in a rich caramel glaze for a sweet and savoury Vietnamese experience.

Some of their other more unexpected banh mi options on the & Banh Mi menu include a banh mi with grilled beef wrapped in betel leaves and a banh mi with pork meatballs with salted egg yolk. There are also more typical banh mi options of cold cuts, barbecue pork and lemongrass chicken, and for sides there are spring rolls and something they call “& Matcha Chili Crunch.”

& Banh Mi even serves a couple veggie versions of banh mi: the & Garden Crackle with crispy roast style plant-based pork and house plant-based sauce, the & Garden Cold Cuts with tofu skin, plant-based sausage, vegetarian butter, vegan butter and plant-based sauce, and a plant-based fish cake banh mi.

When it comes to the coffee menu at & Banh Mi, the shop is serving classic ca phe sua da as well as salted cheese cloud coffee and coconut coffee. & Banh Mi also serves different varieties of oolong milk tea and iced tea, along with a matcha latte, coconut tofu pudding and banana ice cream.

& Banh Mi is now open in Toronto at 13 Elm St.
