A new pizza shop, semi-hidden down an alley beneath a downtown Toronto pub, just opened its doors and sold out on the first day.

Side Piece Slice Shop is now slinging New York-style pizzas and slices made using 72-hour cold-fermented dough.

There are over 10 varieties of pizza on the menu at Side Piece, and all of them are available as a slice or as a full pie. Many pizzas get fresh finishing toppings such as crushed oregano, extra virgin olive oil and Grana Padano.

Side Piece serves its own takes on classics that include a cheesy New Yorker pie, a tomato pie, a Margherita pizza, vodka pizza and a “super pepperoni” pizza with both pepperoni cups and shredded pepperoni.

The menu at Side Piece also includes a Bolognese pizza topped with meat sauce, a spicy pineapple soppressata pizza, a lemon ricotta pizza and even a pickle pizza with White sauce, shredded mozzarella, smoked Caciocavallo, sliced pickles, bacon, red
onion, grated Pecorino, green garlic ranch, fresh dill and toasted peppercorns on a sesame seed crust.

The Side Piece menu also includes a couple of salads, as well as a hot honey, a green garlic ranch and a pepperoncini dip.

“Born from a trip to New York, a shared obsession with pizza, and a couple of pints, three friends got together and decided to bring New York-style pizza to downtown Toronto,” the Side Piece website reads.

“Founded by Chef Gord Mackie, Brooklyn-trained pizzaiolo Johnathan Urquilla, and their big-personality frontman Martin Mazur, we’re serving up hand-tossed, 72-hour cold-fermented dough, crisp-yet-chewy crusts, bold flavours and slices finished with fresh garnishes.”

Side Piece sold out on launch day and is now making pizza seven days a week from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m., or they sell out.

Side Piece Slice Shop is now open underneath The Loose Moose in downtown Toronto at 146 Front St. W.
