A restaurant for Chinese food that was recommended in Toronto’s edition of the Michelin Guide has just suddenly announced that they are taking a pause and going on hiatus right now.

Mimi Chinese has become a source for some of Toronto’s best and fanciest Chinese food, with dishes like smacked cucumber salad, stuffed chicken wings, shrimp toast, General Tao Chicken, char siu, sea bass, steaks, rice dishes and noodle dishes including their famous four-foot belt noodles.

“The MIMI story begins with memories of the past. Loud conversation over plates of steaming noodles. The rush of servers moving quickly about in starched white dress shirts and pressed black bow ties.
“Darkly lit nooks with deep shades of red. The clanking of cutlery as cocktails are shaken swiftly in the background. A fragrant scent of Sichuan peppercorns toasting in the wok.”

The people behind Mimi Chinese, restaurant group Big Hug Hospitality, also operate other reputable Toronto restaurants Sunnys Chinese and Linny’s. There’s also been a Miami location of Mimi Chinese.

The restaurant took to social media to let people know that Mimi Chinse will not be operating for the foreseeable future.

“After four and a half years, Mimi Chinese will be taking a brief pause,” reads a post from the restaurant on social media.

“We’ll be returning to a refreshed dining room and a new menu. Stay tuned here for more info!”
