Huge chain for home goods plans to reopen in Canada

A massively popular chain store for home goods has announced they plan to reopen in Canada soon.

Bed Bath & Beyond is now under new ownership, and has announced officially on their website that they have plans to reopen locations based in Canada, with a banner online reading “rediscover the extraordinary.”

“Bed Bath & Beyond Canada returns in 2026, we can’t wait to be back in your home with new styles made for every stage of your life,” the store said.

The chain store is known for their wide selection of products for the home, as the name suggests. The chain sells items like bedding, bathroom products, furniture, shower accessories, rugs, kitchen items, outdoor products, decor, lighting, items for kids and babies, all kinds of gadgets and other fun items. Their locations have a reputation for being large big box stores with a huge variety of items in stock.

Bed Bath & Beyond Canada closed all 54 locations in early 2023 after filing for creditor protection due to declines in revenue and financial struggles they’ve been experiencing since 2018.

“For decades, Bed Bath & Beyond helped Canadians imagine what home could be,” Sleep Country Canada president and CEO Stewart Schaefer said in a statement. “We’re honoured to bring this brand back to Canadians — and to do so in a new way that feels fresh, exciting, and true to what people have always loved about it.”

Sleep Country Canada has now acquired the Bed Bath & Beyond brand for Canada and the UK, according to Retail Insider and other news reports. Retail Insider reports that the relaunch of the Bed Bath & Beyond brand in Canada should begin with a reopening of online stores, then move on to a reopening of physical stores with a smaller format.

In the United States, Bed Bath & Beyond still operates online and also has physical stores operating in the state of Tennessee.

“We’re thrilled to be returning to brick-and-mortar stores and look forward to seeing you at new locations opening soon,” reads the United States website for Bed Bath & Beyond.

Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. is actually based in Utah, and currently owns Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock, buybuy BABY, and other related brands and websites as well as a blockchain asset portfolio. The company originally started out when Overstock.com was founded in Salt Lake City in 1999.

Details have not yet been released by Bed Bath & Beyond as to the number of stores, locations or potential opening dates for their relaunch in Canda.
