A highly anticipated new quick service restaurant doing charcoal chicken primarily for takeout has just swung open its doors in Toronto, and to say people are excited about the food would be an understatement.

Mozy’s Charcoal is serving up charcoal chicken influenced by Portuguese traditions. We all know people in Toronto love Portuguese chicken, so it’s no surprise that the opening of Mozy’s has been highly anticipated, and that the restaurant is already a hit within a few days of opening its doors.

“It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to Mozy’s. My first restaurant project, and one rooted deeply in family, memory and community. Named in honour of my father, Mozaffar Soudi, known affectionately to those around him as Mozy. Anchored in some of my most cherished memories, at the heart of our kitchen is the flame, where simple ingredients are transformed into honest, soulful dishes, inspired by tradition and elevated with creativity,” reads a post from the chef and owner of Mozy’s Charcoal, Barbode Soudi.

“Our centrepiece is the spatchcock chicken, slowly roasted rotisserie-style over a custom grill imported from Portugal. Alongside it, a focused selection of thoughtfully curated kebabs, each a modern expression that pays respects to the age-old craft of cooking skewers over open flame. More than a restaurant, it is a living exploration of traditions passed down through generations and the creation of new ones.”

Chef Barbode Soudi has spent time working as part of the team at one of Toronto’s most prominent high end restaurants, Alo. He’s now struck out with a concept of his own that’s deeply tied to his personal roots.

Mozy’s Charcoal has now soft launched with a preorder menu available from Jan. 14 through 17, with a set menu available in limited quantities for pickup only.

Right now, the only thing available for this soft launch period is a whole charcoal chicken meal that feeds two to four people for $75. The whole charcoal chicken meal available at this time comes with rice with fried onions, smoked labneh with brown butter and preserved lemon, eggplant with tahini and chilli crisp, and a salad of kale, chickpeas, feta and fresh herbs with mint dressing. But that’s not all: in addition to that, the charcoal chicken meal also comes with three sauces – garlic, charred pepper and coriander lime. For dessert, the meal also includes four tahini miso cookies.

Mozy’s Charcoal has softly launched at 114 Atlantic Ave.
