A restaurant that called itself a “minimalist burger shop offering classic American cheeseburgers and shakes” and its sibling concept serving dessert are closing due to the demolition of the building they’re currently residing in.

Mayday Burger took to social media to announce that they would soon be forced to close the doors of their Toronto restaurant.

The restaurant, aside from cheeseburgers and milkshakes, has also served other fast food classics such as onion rings, fried chicken sandwiches, chicken katsu fries, beef chili hot dogs and poutine.

In addition to kicking things up a notch by adding touches like katsu chicken to their fries and beef chili to their hot dogs, they also took their milkshakes to the next level with flavour options like Lotus Biscoff and Oreo.

Their main offering has been their smash burgers, which come as both singles and doubles and can be topped with beef bacon. Their fried chicken sandwiches come in plain, hot and hot honey varieties. They’ve even been serving a veggie burger.

“It’s time for one last Mayday,” reads the social media post from Mayday Burger.

“Our building is set to be demolished. It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to this little spot that’s been home to so many good burgers, laughs, and memories. Thank you for being part of our journey — for every visit, smile, and kind word along the way. Come by for your last Mayday Burger before we close; we’d love to see you one more time!”

Mayday Burger was created by the same people behind Pass the Syrup, and has been residing in the same space. The burger restaurant was originally opened around fall 2023.

While there is no official announcement about the closure of Pass the Syrup on their website or social media, they are also closing their doors.

Pass the Syrup had a less extensive menu that was mainly based on waffles and ice cream, with options for waffles on the menu that included strawberry pistachio, s’mores and strawberry cheesecake.

“We are thrilled to announce that we are finally launching our burger shop, Mayday Burger, right across Yonge & Dundas Square. Brought to you by the same crew that made your favourite waffle and ice cream at Pass the Syrup,” reads a post announcing the opening of Mayday.

“Since I began my profession as a chef, I have been eager to open this burger place, that is all about keeping it simple, yet delivering unbeatable taste.”

The last day in operation for Mayday Burger will be Nov. 11. Pass the Syrup closed last weekend.
