CLOSURE: Top fresh seafood market shuttering its doors in Toronto

A top seafood store located in Toronto has announced that they will very soon be shuttering their doors and closing down the business.
Newport Fish Importers has two locations in Toronto, a large warehouse location on Alliance Avenue as well as a smaller outpost location on industrial Geary Avenue. Now, the seafood business has announced that they will be shutting down the Geary location of Newport Fish Importers.
The business is known as one of the best seafood stores in the entire city of Toronto, and supplies many restaurants in addition to the many regular people that shop there. They sell fresh fish and seafood including many rare imported products, and they also have a hot table and takeout food available.
“2025 has brought its share of challenges, and after thoughtful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to close the retail location at 181 Geary Ave.,” reads a post on social media from Newport Fish Importers.
“As the retail landscape continues to evolve, we’ve chosen to focus our efforts on the areas of the business where we are best positioned to grow and serve our clients long term. Being part of the Geary business community has been a truly meaningful experience. We are grateful for the neighbouring businesses, collaborations, and every customer who supported us along the way. This chapter has meant a great deal to us. We will continue to look forward in serving all of our clients from the 370 Alliance location, where the warehouse remains open to the public. The wholesale operations remain strong, and we look forward to continuing to support our restaurant partners and the community there for years to come.”
The post started accumulating many likes within just an hour of going live, and there are already a few heartfelt comments from people who are going to miss the Geary location of Newport Fish Importers.
“It’s been a pleasure, gonna miss you guys on Geary,” reads one sentimental comment. “Shopping here not only did I get quality products, I met amazing people which I can call my friends. Thank you so much.”
“Thanks for being such a staple in the community and for bringing authentic Portuguese goods to town,” another person wrote in a comment on the Instagram post announcing the closure of the Geary Avenue location of Newport Fish Importers. “The best! You will be missed!”
The last day in business for the location of Newport Fish Importers on Geary Avenue will be Feb. 28.
