CLOSURE: Thrift store closing down in Toronto

A unique thrift store that sells clothes by the pound and also operates as a music venue has announced they’re shutting down.
Expo has a location at 1450 Dundas St. W. as well as a warehouse-style by-the-pound location at 1978 Dundas St. W., and the by-the-pound spot will soon be no more.
The 1978 spot has high ceilings and a DIY feel, and many nights the space turns into a live performance venue with a bar.
“I’ll keep this short, sweet and poignant. Our 4 year battle with TORONTO ZONING is over, and simply put, MUNICIPAL LICENSE AND STANDARDS will not allow us to have a retail store at 1978 Dundas West anymore,” reads a social media post from Expo signed by owner operator Nick.
“We have no current plans to re-open at an alternative location, but have not ruled it out for the future. Toronto is notoriously unforgiving to spaces like this and all it takes is one NIMBY local resident to complain, BUT DON’T WORRY!!! We are KEEPING THE SPACE and have some crazy plans for the future, that are a little more ‘by the books.’”

The last slide of a carousel of photos on social media announcing the closure is a picture of pizza, so it’s possible the space may turn into some sort of pizza restaurant.
Expo at 1978 Dundas St. W. should be closing around the end of October.
