CLOSURE: Thai restaurant just shut down after less than a year in business in Toronto

A Thai restaurant that had opened its doors for the first time just months ago in Toronto has now officially announced that they are shutting down this month.
Same Same opened in the spring of this year, replacing District Eatery at the same address.
The restaurant blended Thai traditions with more modern influences, with dishes on the menu like oysters, larb crispy brussel sprouts, hot and sour lobster soup, crab green curry, mussaman beef cheeks, and crispy branzino with a chili garlic or spicy tamarind sauce.
The Thai restaurant was helmed by Michelin Bib Gourmand chef Warakorn Suriyawong, though despite the impressive pedigree of the chef in the kitchen at Same Same, the restaurant encountered bumps in the road that have led to its sudden and immediate closure.
“It’s been a short yet memorable journey here at Same Same Thai, and with heartfelt gratitude we share that our doors have closed as of this past weekend due to trademark and branding matters. We are deeply thankful for all the support we’ve received throughout the year. While this moment is bittersweet, it also marks the beginning of something extraordinary. The team behind Same Same is thrilled to unveil the new and better flagship Thai Room Grand downtown,” reads a post from Same Same on social media.
“This flagship will feature exclusive signature Thai dishes with a modern, refined flair, offerings you won’t find at any other Thai Room Grand location. We look forward to welcoming you back and sharing this next chapter with you in the days ahead.”

The post has 75 likes on Instagram and a small handful of heartfelt comments from fans of the restaurant who are sad to see it go but are interested to see the transformation of Same Same into a new location for Thai Room Grand.
“i am so sad..i loved you guys!” commented one person. Another commenter wrote in response to the closing post, “Aww good luck guys! Had the best time eating here over the summer.”
“Sad to see you go. And I know the thai room grand will be just as delicious,” someone else wrote in a comment, with another person echoing, “Look forward to trying the new Thairoom Grand.”
There was only one Same Same, but there are multiple locations of Thai Room, which serves more typical Thai food staple items.
Same Same closed last weekend.
