A little spot for Vietnamese snacks just suddenly announced with no warning that they were shuttering their doors and closing up shop immediately due to an increase in their rent, after only about a year in business.

Saigon Snacks served up Vietnamese food and drink (mainly smaller snacks, banh mi sandwiches and drinks) for about a year, initially opening their doors around spring 2024.

They served build-your-own banh mi with protein options of grilled pork, grilled chicken, fish cake, pork cold cuts and lemongrass tofu.

In addition to the banh mi that was one of their main offerings, they also served food items such as bubble waffles in flavours like taro, chocolate and matcha. The drinks they served included ca phe sua da, matcha beverages and refreshers in flavours like dragonfruit and blueberry lemon.

Saigon Snacks had just been celebrating their one year anniversary by giving away Labubu and Cry Baby toys in April, but now they’ve abruptly post an announcement on social media and their website letting people know that they have now suddenly closed.

“THANK YOU, FAM. Saigon Snacks will be closing our doors for now. This isn’t goodbye — just see you later. When the time’s right, we’ll be back in a new spot, serving up your favourites with even more flavour and love,” reads a message from Saigon Snacks posted to their social media.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for every visit, message, and for enjoying our food! You’ve made this journey unforgettable. In the meantime please visit our fam at Golden Turtle for a selection of our menu all your snacking needs. Stay tuned, stay hungry, and stay kind.”

The post has over 50 likes on Instagram and just a few comments, but very heartfelt ones from people who will miss making Saigon Snacks part of their rituals and routines.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MY CÀ PHÊ DỪA NOOOOOOOO,” one person commented emotionally, with another person commenting, “Glad I came by for a snack recently. Will look for your new location!” Others commented they’re sad to see Saigon Snacks go and are hopeful to see them again at a new location.

“Due to a rent increase, we’ve had to close our doors for now,” reads the closing announcement from Saigon Snacks on both their social media and their website.

The shop was located at 139 Ossington Ave., right where other popular businesses Sam James Coffee Bar and Thai restaurant Favorites also reside.

The last day for Saigon Snacks was Nov. 9.
