A retail clothing store chain with over a century of experience in business behind it is expected to possibly close all of their store locations in Canada.
Eddie Bauer will file a Chapter 11 bankruptcy to shutter its approximately 200 North American stores, according to reports.
The clothing chain is known for their outdoor wear, and the brand has been closing down many of their brick and mortar retail shops in Canada over the past few years. The CF Toronto Eaton Centre location closed in early 2023. The Oshawa Centre store closed last month.
According to a Retail Insider story, as of early February 2026 Eddie Bauer had 28 mall and outlet stores across the entire country of Canada.
Retail Insider was careful to note that the Chapter 11 filing applies specifically to Eddie Bauer’s brick-and-mortar store operations that fall under Catalyst Brands, rather than the Eddie Bauer brand or any of its intellectual property. The story also noted that Authentic Brands Group owns the Eddie Bauer brand and its core IP, while Catalyst Brands holds the license to operate physical stores. Therefore, an online store could continue to operate.
The few remaining Eddie Bauer stores that can be found in the Greater Toronto Area are located in the CF Shops at Don Mills, Vaughan Mills and Lime Ridge Mall in Hamilton.
The apparel chain has an over 100 year history. Seattle outdoorsman Eddie Bauer started a sport shop in 1920 and gradually grew the concept into a major outdoor clothing brand selling all kinds of apparel. Eddie Bauer entered the Canadian market in the late 1980.
The original Eddie Bauer who named and founded the outdoor apparel chain grew up hunting and fishing in the rugged and wild Pacific Northwest area, and that inspired a lifelong desire to share those passions with others and enable everyone to share in the same joys of the great outdoors. The brand started out as Bauer Sports Shop, and the store quickly became a community hub for local outdoor enthusiasts as much as it was a place to stock up on important gear.
So if you’ve been loving Eddie Bauer products for all these years and are sad to hear news of them possibly shutting down every single store in Canada, you may want to head to your favourite location soon to make sure you have your favourites.
There is no set date yet for when Canadian locations of Eddie Bauer stores are possibly expected to close.
