A popular top-tier restaurant for Mediterranean food just announced their closure.
Byblos is well known for their excellent and creative execution of Mediterranean dishes, and inventive takes on classic traditional favourites.
Their menu includes items like hummus, Turkish manti dumplings, crispy stuffed olives, labneh, fried eggplant, a variety of pide, short rib kebabs, harissa roasted half chicken and even a Middle Eastern take on fried chicken. They’re also known for their stunning interiors.
The restaurant originally started out with a downtown location found on Duncan, and later on opened an uptown location on Yonge.
“Byblos represents a marriage of Eastern Mediterranean cuisine with strong influences from both traditional and local ingredients,” reads the restaurant’s official website. “Using time-honoured classic techniques and modern methods, our dishes showcase the regionally specific spices and flavours of the Eastern Mediterranean seaboard. The menu is a true coastal and cultural mosaic, served family style in a convivial atmosphere.”
Now, Byblos has taken to social media to announce that the uptown location of the restaurant is no more.
“Uptown, it’s been a beautiful chapter – thank you for being part of our story. Stay tuned for what’s next at 2537 Yonge St.,” reads a social media post from Byblos.
“To our wonderful Byblos guests, we look forward to many more memorable dining experiences together at Byblos Downtown.”

People have commented on the post dismayed to hear about the closure of the uptown location of Byblos.
“Wwwhhhhyyy?? It was the best places to go for a post-work meal,” one person wrote in a comment on Instagram. “Happy to have experienced the Uptown location, and also very happy that the downtown location is available.”
“I’m so happy I was able to visit you guys for my birthday two weeks ago. You’ve done well,” another person commented on the Instagram post. Another person simply reacted to the closure announcement post with the word “I’m devastated.”
“Shame, it was one of INK’s better restaurants,” reads another comment on the instagram post about the closure of the uptown location of Byblos.
The last comment is referring to the hospitality group that runs Byblos, which is also responsible for Akira Back, Amal, Daphne, Kost, Sofia, Rebel and Cabana Pool Bar. They also run the popular electronic music festival called Veld.
The downtown location of Byblos is still operating at 11 Duncan St. Byblos also still operates a location in Miami, and INK operates many other spots in Miami as well.
The uptown location of Byblos closed on Oct. 20.
