A Toronto restaurant known for its global flavours bringing cuisines from around the world together on one menu has quietly and mysteriously closed down with no formal announcement letting people know what has been going on.
Aviv Immigrant Kitchen was beloved by its local community for its tasty food and welcoming atmosphere, and for years has been a great spot for celebrations and casual gatherings.
The restaurant has not made any kind of formal announcement telling people that they have closed, but the restaurant appears to no longer be operating according to eyewitness testimony and their Instagram account has been deleted.
An Instagram account with a focus on the local Toronto burger scene has been one source confirming that the restaurant Aviv Immigrant Kitchen now appears to have closed down and shuttered its doors.
“I only visited Aviv Immigrant Kitchen a few weeks ago to try their burger, so I was shocked and saddened to learn the restaurant has abruptly shut its doors before I even had the chance to share my experience,” local foodie Instagram account @burgersto wrote in a caption to a post.
“After serving up delicious eats in Toronto for over a decade, it appears they’ve closed their location at 779 St. Clair Ave. West. While no formal announcement has been made, their Instagram account has disappeared, their phone line has been disconnected, and there’s even a for sale sign in the window. A sad loss for St. Clair West and the Toronto food scene.”
The menu at Aviv Immigrant Kitchen ranged from mezze to salads, and from pasta to brisket and burgers.
“AVIV Immigrant Kitchen brings together diverse gastronomic influences and lived experiences, from the Mediterranean to South America, Asia, and beyond. With its warm and chic ambiance, the restaurant elevates neighborhood dining. 14 years ago, Aviv opened its doors in the Annex with a Mediterranean-based menu. Since relocating to St. Clair West (three years ago), the Aviv vision has blossomed into globally inspired food,” reads the official website for Aviv Immigrant Kitchen, which is still active.
“We take inspiration from the freshest seasonal ingredients and the meaning of “Aviv” itself: SPRING. Robert Chee who sources top-quality produce from Toronto’s local markets. Maria Perez leads the entire team with a singular promise: “We create spectacular, delicious food that feels like home, no matter where you’re from.”
Aviv Immigrant Kitchen appears to have closed within the past few weeks.
