CLOSURE: Middle Eastern restaurant just closed their spot in downtown Toronto

A Middle Eastern restaurant from Mississauga that had expanded with their first ever Toronto location has now closed that spot downtown.

East Tea Can bills itself as a Middle Eastern canteen, and first opened up its doors back in 2016. They opened a satellite outpost location in downtown Toronto at The Well much more recently, but they recently announced that the location had suddenly closed down.

The Mississauga location of East Tea Can serves lunch, dinner and brunch. That includes a range of dips and spreads, mezze, tasting boards, salads, grilled items, bowls and mana’eesh (a type of stone baked Middle Eastern pizza).

They serve their mezze and mana’eesh for brunch too, along with plates like Middle Eastern baklava granola, shakshuka eggs and sujuk eggs. East Tea Can also deals in tasty desserts that include cheese kunafa, saffron rice pudding, Arabic coffee cream brulee and an orange nectarine caramel termed Muhallabeya.

The menu for East Tea Can’s location at The Well was much more stripped down, with a tight selection of salads and bowls, a few mezze, entrees with your choice of protein, side and dip, plus some of their desserts.

Now, East Tea Can has taken to social media to announce to people that their location at The Well is no more.

“The Well location is now closed, but something new is on the horizon,” reads East Tea Can’s simple social media post.

“Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this chapter so special. Until then, you can still find us in Mississauga for your favourite Levantine flavours.”

East Tea Can posted the message that their location at The Well had closed just a couple days ago.

There are a handful of passionate comments on the post on Instagram with people saying it’s a shame to see the location at The Well go, and that it was great and one of their favourite places at the development, which houses many restaurants.

While it’s sad to see East Tea Can close at The Well, there are certainly many other places to go to get a bite to eat at the newer development, from sit down restaurants to tons of stalls at their very own food hall, Wellington Market. While East Tea Can may be closing at The Well, the development has been welcoming new restaurants and businesses all the time.
