A bakery known for their French flair is closing the doors of their original location after over a decade in business in Toronto.
Gouter is a classic French-style bakery located in Toronto, creating traditional French pastries like croissants from scratch, and also baking their own French bread.
Now, the bakery has taken to social media to announce that they’re closing up shop at the location that got it all started for Gouter.
“After 10 years, we’re saying goodbye to where it all began. Our original Bathurst shop (3507 Bathurst St.) will be closing its doors. This one really hurts – it’s where we mixed our first Goûter doughs, served our first customers, and became part of a neighbourhood we love so much,” reads a post on social media from the bakery.
“Unfortunately, we were put in a position where lease renewal was not a real option, but we’re beyond grateful for every single person who walked through those doors over the past decade. You made Goûter what it is today.”

The post has gotten over 300 likes on Instagram and around 75 comments from fans of the bakery that are sad to see the original location close its doors. A couple people even shouted out the way that the small community business got them through pandemic lockdowns.
“During Covid you left me a little birthday treat outside the door!! I was so sad you weren’t open that day & you sent me a message that I had something waiting. I’ll forever remember this location!! (And then follow to the next location,)” reads a sentimental comment from one person.
“Your Bathurst shop is round the corner from me but Eglinton and the Avenue Rd. market is still doable for me,” someone else commented. “You were such a godsend during Covid. All of our many walks made it past your shop.”
Gouter still operates locations in Toronto at 300 Eglinton Ave. W. and 34 Six Point Rd., and both those locations are fully decked out with seating areas where you can stay and grab a bite. Gouter will also be present at the Avenue Road Market every Saturday throughout the summer. The market runs from May 30 to Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is located at Avenue Road and Old Orchard Grove.
“Bathurst, thank you for 10 unforgettable years,” reads the social media post from Gouter. “Love you and we’ll miss you more than you know.”
The last day for Gouter on Bathurst will be May 16.
