A shop known for great coffee just closed down permanently after five years in business.
Hamers Coffee served and sold specialty coffee from artisanal providers like Square Mile, Fritz and Quietly.
The shop also served food, and often hosted pop-ups from up-and-coming food vendors. Recently they had sandwich maker Kenny’s regularly taking up residence at the cafe serving options like patty melts and western sammies, plus hand pies.
“I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to play out a 5 year goal,” owner Derek Hamers wrote in a long and heartfelt social media post. “Not all of us get to ‘shoot our shot’ and I’m forever grateful to those who gave me the chance to do it.”

The post announcing the closure has over 1,000 likes and nearly 150 comments on Instagram from people congratulating Hamers on their run, wishing them love and saying the cafe will be in their hearts forever.
The cafe said goodbye to the community with a big blowout party, serving coffee, sandwiches, wine and cocktails, with vinyl playing to keep the energy up.

Fortunately, coffee lovers in the Dundas West area won’t be without their caffeine fix for long. Hamers is already poised to transform into a different cafe, with Carbonic Coffee taking over the space for their second location.
