A clothing store that’s been in business for many years in Toronto has hung up its garments on the rack for the last time and closed its doors.
Comrags has been in business for over 40 years, initially first starting out all the way back in 1983.
“On August 31st, 1983, in an after hours dance club down an alleyway off Yonge Street, we debuted our first ‘official’ collection under our new label, Comrags. It was a wild idea, but we decided to take a chance, give it a go, and see what happened. Could we actually sell clothing we designed and made? Never could we have imagined that forty-two years later we’d still be at it,” reads a post from Comrags on social media from back in the summer of 2025.
“There is never a good time to stop doing what you love, but there is a right time. And for us, that time has come. Fall/Winter 2025 will be our final collection. It will not be one of nostalgia, rather a mix of what we love, fabrics we’ve squirrelled away, and ideas we’ve yet to try, all styled with abandon. It is with both joy and sadness that we make this announcement, but Comrags has always been about embracing contradiction. We started on our own terms, naively, but were determined to design clothes that looked great and functioned well, never sacrificing quality. And we would do it all here in Toronto, our home. We feel extremely fortunate to have spent forty-two years doing what we love, in our own distinct way.”

“Sadness, for sure, but massive respect on a decision I am sure was very complex. Thank you for decades of not just clothes, but keepsake pieces meant to be worn,” wrote Karyn from another local clothing business, Lilliput Hats.
“With pride. Your way, your terms, your legacy. One door closes and many more open. Onwards, inspiring, tenacious and talent beyond.”
“All the women behind Comrags have always been inspirational, immensely creative and generous with their experience,” reads a comment from Sew Rite Studio. “42 years!!!!! That is certainly a feat. Excited for you all to enter into your next chapters.”
Throughout their final remaining months open, they released their very last collection ever and had lots of amazing sales with deep discounts on their unique and passionately made garments.
Finally, at the end of December 2025, the shop and its clothing line finally said farewell to the city of Toronto for good, announcing on social media that they were now well and truly closed.
