A bar with late night DJs spinning into the wee hours of the morning has quietly announced that they will soon be shutting their doors for good in Toronto.
La Piscina now operates as a bar and nightlife spot known for its boozy drinks and late night DJ sets, but it wasn’t always that way.
The bar actually started out as a coffee shop called Safehouse before the team behind that project transformed it into something totally different and opposite: a late night hang space serving drinks. The space has been operating as La Piscina for four years, and as Safehouse for about five years before that.
La Piscina serves a vibey mix of classic cocktails like espresso martinis, negronis and margaritas as well as their own creative signature cocktails such as a cherry Cuba Libre. The interior of the space has a unique flair to it with interesting lighting and fun, kitschy decor that matches La Piscina’s party energy.
There have been subtle hints on social media that La Piscina will soon be closing, and bar owner Tyler Kostman confirmed with YourCityWithIN.com that the bar will be shuttering its doors and says that after nine years in the space, it’s time to start a new chapter.

“I had a baby in July and there have been health challenges in the family. Just a reset after nine plus years in the space. Four years as a cafe, one and a half years as a grocer during COVID and then 4 years as a bar. The space has been kind to me. I also met my partner Barbara in the coffee shop when I was a barista. It’s time to move on,” Kostman tells YourCityWithIN.com.
“Specifically I am also leaving because Toronto has changed in the last five years. Due to a lot of factors that are out of my control, business isn’t what it was post-COVID. The economy has been rougher, people’s going out habits have changed and there is a lot of red tape on business practices in this city. There isn’t an environment that promotes small businesses to thrive anymore in my opinion.”
There are still a few events coming up at La Piscina before they close the doors of the bar around the end of the year, so check them out while you can.
The last day for La Piscina will be Dec. 31.
