A Canadian chef who’s made TV appearances has swung open the doors of a brand new Kosher restaurant at a hotel in Toronto.
David Adjey once had restaurant Bouffe in the Dundas West area, which has now since closed, but now he’s back at it again at the helm of a totally new Kosher restaurant at the historic Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto.
The cozy new restaurant only has 32 seats, but they’re serving up big flavours. The menu may be strictly Kosher, but draws influences from around the globe, with inspiration from places like Korea, Thailand and Mexico. Vibrant, colourful appetizers and salads to start are followed by high quality USDA steaks, with the restaurant as a whole embracing a steakhouse vibe with big meaty dishes and elegant smaller plates.

Global flavours are established right away on a list of shareable starters, with options ranging from Vietnamese salad rolls, Korean meatballs and short rib tacos to Thai spiced chicken lollipops, pastrami cured salmon and spicy tuna crispy rice.

The real meat of the menu (pun intended) is a wide selection of steaks. Opt for braised short rib, boneless ribeye, bone-in prime rib, a “faux” mignon or a classic Beef Wellington with a take on “foie gras” plus black truffle and mushroom duxelle. There’s also a tasting of Ontario lamb, and a signature burger.
For sides, you can accompany with hand cut steak fries, whipped potatoes, onion rings, Mexican street corn, salt-roasted beets or French beans.
Other mains include roasted salmon, black cod, gochujang chili spiced chicken breast, noodles, Mongolian crispy beef and even a vegan version of the Wellington.
Thoughtful cocktails and a curated wine list complement the food menu, and the new restaurant even has a private VIP liquor locker with storage for favourite bottles for guests.

The space is accented by lots of natural stone and wood, set off by bold contrasting colours and impressive custom fitted Italian furniture. Designed by Lori Morris of LMD Design, the restaurant features Catherine Martin Mokum fabrics and Murano Glass Chandeliers.

“Chagall is about more than just what’s on the plate,” says Executive Chef David Adjey. “It’s about creating moments, whether it’s the art of tableside service, the surprise of dishes with global flavours, or the feeling of dining somewhere that’s intimate, refined, and featuring a fresh approach to kosher dining.”
Chagall is now open at the Windsor Arms Hotel at 18 St Thomas St.
