A hip burger joint in Toronto just took to Instagram to announce they’re closing their doors.
Extra Burger was arguably one of the restaurants that introduced the smash burger to Toronto back when they opened up seven years ago. Just today, they’ve posted that “we have wrapped up our operations at Extra Burger.”
“Many thanks to our loyal fan base. Without your continued support we wouldn’t have lasted 7 weeks,” reads the post.
“Grateful to our small community of creatives, without you we’d have no artwork, lighting, photos or music. Thank you to our loyal staff and for handling the many changes of the past few years with grace. Excited to see what you all do next. It’s been a wild ride full of surprises since we opened our doors in 2017 and now we’re looking forward to focusing on other projects.”
In addition to burgers, the restaurant was known for their patty melts and their crinkle cut fries, including Bowlerama fries doused in cheese sauce and gravy. Unlike many other burger joints, they served their comfort food alongside cocktails, wine and beer.
They also created a bar-like, vibey atmosphere in their space at Dovercourt and Dundas that was way more than what you’d expect from your average burger spot. They also once had more than one location, previously operating spots in Parkdale and Oakwood Village that have since shut down.
“A final merch drop is in the works for later this summer and catering requests (preference of cottage country) can still be submitted through our website,” Extra Burger’s social media post concludes. “For now, we look far back into our camera rolls and celebrate the victories.”
