A brand spanking new shop for sandwiches that also functions as a pantry has just swung open its doors this month in Toronto, and people are already loving it.
Hot Mess Sandwiches & Pantry just opened near the beginning of the month, and they’ve been serving up sandwiches and other fare to the local neighbourhood.
Leading up to their opening, the restaurant was posting all sorts of updates about how they’ve been getting the sandwich shop space ready, such as:
“The ceiling has been patched, rebuilt, repainted… And is looking totally refreshed! Next up, lights! We can’t wait to see the space start to shine!”
“Hauling kitchen equipment from one end of the city to the east end definitely came with a few challenges… many of which aren’t captured here. So grateful for the hands (and muscles!) helping us build this place.”
“Behind the scene wins matter too! Passing our Toronto DineSafe inspection was one of those moments that made everything feel real.. the sign in the window, the doors ready to open. Grateful for all the work and help that went into getting us there!”
They haven’t been posting as much information to their social media pages about the specific food items they’ll be serving, but they promise they’ll be doing more of that soon.
“Week one was incredible. Thank you to the neighbourhood and our community for showing up and making our opening week feel so special. We can’t wait to bombard your feed with tasty footage of what we’ve been working on, hehe!”
The restaurant is serving a decent range of sandwiches. On their menu, they’ve got a breakfast sandwich with peameal, fried egg, banana peppers and Polish mustard; a beef dip with pickles, horseradish mayo and grilled onion; a deli sandwich with Polish meats, marinated tomato, pickles, mustard and Emmentaler; and a jerk fish sandwich made with crispy basa accompanied by jerk mayo, sliced avocado and mango chow salsa.
They’ve also got a range of melts that includes a truffle mushroom melt with Emmentaler, cremini, truffle mayo and grilled onion. In addition to that, they’re serving up a veggie melt and a classic grilled cheese. For sides, there’s a macaroni salad, a beet and goat cheese salad and potato salad. Hot Mess also typically offers one option for soup, like butternut squash or roasted red pepper.
Hot Mess Sandwiches & Pantry is now open at 1027 Gerrard St. E.
