Beloved pub just shut down after decades in business in Toronto

A pub that’s been loved by many and been in business for decades has just suddenly shuttered its doors in Toronto.
Bier Markt has been operating on The Esplanade for decades, but now it’s time for the restaurant and bar to say goodbye to the community.
The restaurant took to social media to announce their closure.
“To our loyal Bier Markt Esplanade guests, we have officially closed our doors,” reads the post from the location of Bier Markt found in Toronto.
“We thank you for the decades of memories and the privilege of hosting you for so many years. It has been an honour to be part of this community. Thank you for everything. Prost!”

The post has accumulated nearly 150 likes and many comments on Instagram from people who are sad to see the pub go after many years of regular operation.
A few local bars even chimed in with comments on Instagram, with Mill Street commenting, “Thanks for all the memories” and Freeplay writing, “A Toronto Legend is gone!”
Many others reached out to comment with heartfelt memories of their time spent at the location of Bier Markt on The Esplanade.
“Sorry to hear this! I remember the days when the line up was around the corner every weekend to get in and see the bands… such great memories,” one person commented.
“Heartbroken,” another person wrote in a comment on Instagram. “One of my favorite places I have ever worked! Bier Markt was a family like no other. Will miss you guys!”
“Sad to see a week after our last DM your doors are closed,” someone else wrote. “But thanks for being a spot @risingelemental & I brought many Family members and friends to!”
“Thankful for you guys and all your hard work and dedication,” someone said in a comment. “Was a legendary spot and won’t soon be forgotten!”
At least for all the people that are sorry to see this location of Bier Markt go, there is a bit of a silver lining: Bier Markt is a chain of restaurants, and there is another location that is still open and operating.
The only downside is, it’s all the way in Ottawa, so if you’re craving Bier Markt you’re going to have to head outside of Toronto from now on.
The last day for Bier Markt on The Esplanade in Toronto was Jan. 19.
