Another pub-style restaurant in Burlington has closed down

For the second time in as many weeks comes news of a Burlington pub-style closure.

The Brant Pump & Patio at 455 Brant St. has closed its doors effectively immediately, as has one of the Pump’s Mississauga locations.

“After a symphony of cherished memories and heartfelt appreciation, we announce the sunset of two beloved restaurants, the Brant and Erin Mills Pump & Patio,” was a message posted on the company’s website today.

Most of the online presence of the Burlington location has subsequently disappeared including its website and Instagram account.

Just two weeks ago a nearby pub on Brant St., the Queen’s Head, announced it will be closing in September.

As for the pump, reviews suggest patrons were pleased with the establishment, enjoying the traditional English pub and roadhouse fare and events held at the location.

The news of the closure caught many customers by surprise.

“What? I was just there a few days ago,” said Twitter user C. J. Ramsey. “First the Queen’s Head, now the Pump. It looks like all the old-school restaurants are on their way out. I guess they can’t compete with all the fast-food and takeout places.”

A message posted on the Oakville Pump’s website said that location will continue to operate as will the one in the Clarkson area of Mississauga.

The message also noted that the original owners and founders of the Pump brand have taken over the family of restaurants.

“With the same passion and commitment that sparked the creation of these beloved establishments, we pledge to infuse a fresh breath of life into every nook and cranny of the remaining restaurant family,” the message stated. “So, while we were unable to step in before these closures (Burlington and Erin Mills), we promise to do all we can to ensure the revival and success of the Clarkson Pump & Patio, the Pump House Grille Co. and Papa Giuseppe’s.”
