A space that was once home to a legendary pub is being taken over by a popular bar brand and being turned into their second Toronto location.

Black Bull Tavern reigned over the corner of Queen and Soho since 1883, but closed in April 2024. However, the public was swiftly notified that the torch would be passed to new owners and the space would remain a bar, albeit under a different name and concept.

Score on King was the first outpost of British-Columbia-based Score to open in Toronto on King East. The bar is most well-known for its epic Caesars that are garnished with everything from grilled cheese sandwiches, fried pickles and desserts to hot dogs and chicken wings.

Of course, they also serve equally epic brunches to go along with their Caesars, and aside from that cultivate a fun sports bar atmosphere with a bustling patio at their King location. That means they should hopefully be able to carry on the tradition of operating Black Bull’s famous patio.

Score Pub Group bought the Black Bull from the Taylor family after owner Bobby Taylor passed away last August.

Score has been posting photos of their construction progress to their Score on Queen Instagram story, and it looks like the old pub should be getting a pretty thorough transformation.

Score on Queen should be opening in late summer.
