Toronto’s 2 Michelin star chef just opened up a new ramen concept and it’s already been drawing lineups around the block.
Ramen Tabetai is a new restaurant from chef Masaki Saito, at the same address as his renowned sushi restaurant MSSM in Yorkville. They’re serving Jiro-style ramen, which typically features thick noodles, rich broth and lots of garlic and is served in generous portions.
Saito is actually Canada’s only 2 Michelin star chef, earning that status for his restaurant Sushi Masaki Saito.

“He slices, scores and sauces the greatest treasures of the sea,” reads the Michelin Guide’s entry about Sushi Masaki Saito. As for MSSM, there are locations in Yorkville, at Ossington and Dundas and in Edmonton.
Now, he’s bringing his skills with seafood to the world of ramen with new project Ramen Tabetai.
The ramen at Tabetai is made with super thick noodles, pork chashu, back fat and aromatic veggies. You can also add on garlic mayo, Japanese nori, spicy tare, an onsen egg, ginger, extra chashu, cheese, curry powder or white rice. Aside from ramen, you can also grab a few onigiri: yukari (made with red shiso leaves), shirasu (whitebait fish) and takikomi (seasoned rice mixed with veggies, meat or fish).

The best part is, Ramen Tabetai is giving away 100 free bowls of ramen per day for students during their soft opening, which is still going on this weekend. They’re open from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ramen Tabetai is now open at 154 Cumberland St.
